Insect has created the world's first pure carbon fiber + carbon nanotube skateboard.

Congratulations are in order!

June 22, 2008: Insect's newest team member, Spencer Smith, took 1st place in the Juniors division at Vernon. At a mere 13 years old, this kid is a phenom. We're thrilled to have him on board and can't wait to see what he does at Maryhill.

Insect Breaks New Ground with Nanotech

Tech News - April 26, 2008: In October, 2007, Insect began a quest to construct a skateboard deck using the most advanced composite materials known to man. This led directly to the cutting edge world of carbon nanotubes. What was science fiction only a few years ago is now a proven technology in military and aerospace applications. Many experiments using carbon fiber prepreg enhanced with carbon nanotubes followed. The first of these experiments involved using carbon nano skins over standard core materials in a traditional sandwich construction and the results were mixed. Ultimately, we took a gamble and decided to dispense with the core altogether and build the entire board out of nothing but carbon fiber + carbon nanotubes.

The results???

Absolutely spectacular, not to mention incredibly beautiful! Thin, light, sleek, stealth, mirror finish, completely impervious to water, and essentially indestructible. A deck less than 1/4" thick can easily support a skater well over 300 pounds. The flex is butter smooth and ultra responsive. Frankly, it's amazing stuff and Insect is proud to be the first to bring this incredible material to the skateboarding world.

Insect Nanotech boards will be available this summer by special order only. These are not intended as a replacement to our venerable line of fiberglass/bamboo boards and will, without a doubt, be out of the price range of most skaters. A full press release and interview will be forthcoming.

I'll be updating the site over the coming days! All of this takes a great deal of time so hang tight.
